Parts 4 & 5 (Technical): Email Configuration & Programming Languages

This session took place on 30 September 2021. It focused on Email Address Internationalization (EAI) and the Universal Acceptance readiness for Programming Languages (Java).

Moderator

Innocent Adriko

Innocent has great interest in Internet Policy and Governance, which field he has diversely trained and worked in for the last two years with great focus on Digital Inclusion, Digital Literacy, Digital Rights, and recently Digital security. He was a NextGen at ICANN65, Internet Society IGF Youth Ambassador 2019, and has been selected for the ICANN 72 fellowship. He has spoken at national, regional and international conferences that include the IGF and RightsCon. He is the Vice President for Advocacy at the DearGovernments organization, Engagement Lead Volunteer at the Digital Literacy Initiative, Coordinator Uganda Youth IGF, a member of the Internet Society (ISOC) Uganda Chapter and the ICANN community.

Facilitators

Sarmad Hussain

Sarmad Hussain is the Senior Director of ICANN’s Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) and Universal Acceptance (UA) Programs. Earlier, Sarmad was a professor of Computer Science and held the IDRC Chair position in Multilingual Computing. His research has focused on developing computing solutions for Asian languages, including research in linguistics, localization, speech processing, and computational linguistics. He was an active member of the ICANN community before joining ICANN – he was engaged in the IDN ccTLD application for Pakistan, and was a member of ICANN’s Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC).

Champika Wijayatunga

Champika Wijayatunga is the Regional Technical Engagement Manager for Asia Pacific at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Prior to ICANN, Champika held managerial, specialist, and liaison roles at APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for the Asia Pacific. He started his career with IBM Corporation as a technical specialist, and has worked in the IT industry, academia, research, and training environments.
Champika holds a postgraduate degree in Computer Science & Engineering, as well as Professional Education qualifications in Cybersecurity. He also serves in various technical community groups and committees.
